The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially commenced the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) across Nigeria, amid tightened security measures.
The examination, which is being conducted in accredited Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres nationwide, has drawn thousands of candidates seeking admission into universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education. Reports from various centres indicate that the exercise began smoothly in many locations, with candidates arriving early and adhering to the stipulated guidelines.
JAMB Registrar, Is-haq Oloyede, had earlier assured stakeholders of the Board’s readiness to deliver a credible and seamless examination. He emphasized that robust technological systems and improved logistics had been deployed to minimize disruptions and enhance efficiency throughout the exercise.
In line with its commitment to uphold examination integrity, the Board has introduced stricter monitoring mechanisms, including real-time surveillance, biometric verification of candidates, and the use of advanced software to detect irregularities. Officials have warned that any candidate found engaging in examination malpractice will face severe sanctions, including disqualification.
Security agencies have also been mobilized to ensure orderliness at examination venues, while technical officials remain on standby to address any challenges that may arise during the sessions.
The 2026 UTME is expected to run over several days, with candidates scheduled in batches across different time slots. As the exercise continues, the Board has reiterated its commitment to fairness, transparency, and equal opportunity for all candidates.
