The University of Ibadan has directed 226 undergraduate students to withdraw from the institution over poor academic performance.
The decision followed a meeting of the University’s Senate held last Monday, where results for the 2024/2025 academic session for both graduating and non-graduating students were considered and ratified. The Senate approved that students with a Cumulative Grade Point Average below 1.0 be advised to withdraw from the institution.
With the approval, the affected students have lost access to the school portal for registration. The directive cuts across faculties and affects students from 100 to 500 levels.
Breakdown of the figures shows that the Faculty of Science recorded the highest number with 79 students withdrawn. The Faculty of Technology followed with 45 students, while the Faculty of Agriculture accounted for 35.
Both the College of Medicine and the Faculty of Education recorded 18 affected students each, while the Faculty of Renewable Natural Resources had 10.
Other faculties impacted include Arts with nine students; Economics and Management Sciences, four; Law, three; Veterinary Medicine, two; and Environmental Design and Management, three.
The annual academic review exercise, often referred to by students as “tsunami,” previously led to the withdrawal of 408 students in 2018.
Meanwhile, newly admitted students have resumed physically for the 2025/2026 academic session.
