The University of Lagos has released the detailed programme of events and general information for its 56th Convocation Ceremonies, scheduled to hold from Wednesday, January 14 to Sunday, January 25, 2026.
According to the official programme issued by the Office of the Registrar, activities will commence on Wednesday, January 14, with a Convocation Press Conference addressed by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade T. Ogunsola, OON, FAS, at the Senate Chamber, followed by the first convocation rehearsal later in the day at the J. F. Ade. Ajayi Auditorium.
The convocation lecture will take place on Monday, January 19, 2026, with Mr Orondaam Otto, Chief Executive Officer of Slum2School Africa, delivering a lecture titled “Maximizing Nigeria’s Demographic Dividend through Urgent Education Reform for Global Competitiveness in the 21st Century.” The lecture will be chaired by Hon. Justice Mary Odili, CFR, JSC (Rtd).
The main convocation ceremonies will be held over three days, from Tuesday, January 20 to Thursday, January 22, 2026. During this period, the university will confer first degrees, diplomas, certificates, postgraduate diplomas, master’s degrees, PhD degrees, as well as honorary doctorate degrees. Awards will also be presented to emeritus and distinguished professors, alongside the conferment of gold medals.
Other highlights of the convocation include hooding ceremonies across faculties, an exhibition, edutainment activities at the UNILAG Sports Centre, a convocation play titled Ovonramwen Nogbaisi by Ola Rotimi, and a Thanksgiving Service scheduled for Sunday, January 25, 2026, at the Chapel of Christ Our Light.
The university also provided comprehensive guidelines for graduating students, including mandatory convocation fees, academic gown purchase or hire, payment procedures, collection and return of academic outfits, certificate collection, alumni registration fees, and registration for attendance at the convocation ceremonies.
Graduating students are reminded that failure to return hired academic gowns by February 9, 2026, will attract the full purchase cost, while certificates not collected within one year will attract demurrage charges.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade T. Ogunsola, on behalf of the Governing Council and the university community, congratulated all graduating students and assured them that certificates will be ready for collection after the ceremonies upon completion of all required clearances.
