*FEDERAL GOVERNMENT BEGINS CONSTRUCTION OF 38,400 - BEDSPACE HOSTELS ACROSS CAMPUSES*
In a significant step toward addressing the accommodation challenges faced by students in tertiary institutions, the Federal Government of Nigeria has unveiled plans to deliver over *38,400 world-class hostel bed spaces* across *24 public tertiary institutions* nationwide. This landmark initiative falls under the *Renewed Hope Student Housing Project*, a flagship programme of *President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's* administration aimed at transforming the living and learning conditions of Nigerian students.
The project is being executed through a *Public-Private Partnership (PPP)* model to ensure sustainability, efficiency, and quality delivery. According to a statement from the project’s promoters, each of the 24 selected institutions will benefit from the construction of *1,600 bed spaces*, to be housed in *400 fully ensuite rooms*.
These new hostel facilities will be designed with modern standards in mind and will include:
- Study tables and chairs for each student
- Four dedicated reading rooms
- A common lounge area
- Cafeteria and restaurants
- Laundromat services
- Mini-marts and grocery shops
- Salon services
- Public toilet facilities for guests and visitors
The implementation of the Renewed Hope Student Housing Project is being championed by *Family Homes Funds Limited (FHFL)*, in collaboration with the *Federal Government*, the *Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund)*, and *Africa Plus Partners Nigeria Limited*.
This initiative aligns with President Tinubu’s broader commitment to invest in educational infrastructure, improve student welfare, and create a conducive environment for academic excellence across Nigerian tertiary institutions.
As of now, construction work has commenced at *six pilot locations*, split evenly between the northern and southern parts of the country. The three northern sites include:
- *Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria*
- *Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi*
- *FCT College of Education, Zuba*
The southern project sites are expected to be announced shortly, with full-scale construction to begin soon thereafter.
The Renewed Hope Student Housing Project is projected not only to alleviate the pressure on existing student accommodation but also to create jobs, promote economic activity in host communities, and raise the standard of campus living across the country.
