*🎙️🎓 FASHOLA TO DELIVER UNILORIN’S 40TH CONVOCATION LECTURE AS TINUBU COMMISSIONS NEW PROJECTS*
The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has announced the programme of activities for its 40th Convocation Ceremonies, scheduled to hold from Friday, October 17 to Sunday, October 26, 2025.
According to a statement signed by the University Registrar, Mr. Mansur Adeleke Alfanla, the week-long celebration will feature a series of religious, academic, and social events, marking another milestone in the institution’s distinguished history.
A major highlight of the convocation will be the Convocation Lecture, to be delivered by the former Governor of Lagos State and former Minister of Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN, on Wednesday, October 22, 2025. The lecture, titled “The Gen-Z Playbook: Navigating Work and the Real World,” is scheduled to take place at the University Auditorium beginning at 9:00 a.m.
In a significant addition to the lineup of events, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, is expected to commission several newly completed projects within the University as part of the convocation activities.
The ceremonies will commence on Friday, October 17, with a Special Juma’at Service at the University Central Mosque by 1:00 p.m., followed by an Interdenominational Church Service on Sunday, October 19, at the Chapel of the Light, UNILORIN Campus.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, will address a World Press Conference on Monday, October 20, to outline the University’s achievements over the past year.
On Tuesday, October 21, the Convocation Play titled “Joromi” will be staged at the University’s Performing and Film Arts Theatre in two sessions: 4:00 p.m.–6:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m.
The convocation for graduands of 4-year degree programmes and diploma holders will hold immediately after the lecture on Wednesday, October 22, while those of 5- and 6-year programmes, including postgraduate graduands, will be celebrated on Thursday, October 23. The day will also feature the investiture of Emeritus Professors.
President Tinubu’s commissioning of projects will take place at various locations across the campus at 1:30 p.m., followed by the Staff Merit Awards and Convocation Luncheon at 4:00 p.m.
The week-long event will conclude with a Special Juma’at Service on Friday, October 24, and a Thanksgiving Service at St. Thomas Aquinas Chaplaincy on Sunday, October 26, beginning at 9:00 a.m.
The University noted that this year’s convocation underscores its continued commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and national development.
