The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced a major change in the 2026 SSCE Internal English Language Paper III. The number of objective questions will drop from 100 to 80, with a new time limit of 50 minutes.
This includes:
- Antonyms – 10 questions
- Registers – 10
- Idioms, Phrasal Verbs & Foreign Words – 10
- Synonyms – 10
- Grammatical Structures – 30
- Cloze Text – 10
The adjustment aligns with the Federal Government’s plan to fully implement CBT exams in both private and public schools by 2026.
The National Examinations Council (NECO) has called on interested CBT centre operators across Nigeria to apply for accreditation. This process comes with strict technical, infrastructural, and security requirements to ensure exam integrity and smooth implementation.
This move is part of efforts to modernize Nigeria’s examination system, curb exam malpractice, boost efficiency, and improve access to digital education across the country.
