The Benue State House of Assembly has once again amended the law governing the name of the state-owned university in Makurdi, settling on a shorter and more concise title.
With the new amendment, the University will now be officially known as Father Adasu University, Makurdi, replacing the longer Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi.
The decision was taken during Thursday’s plenary after lawmakers considered the report of the House Standing Committee on Higher Education.
While leading the debate, the Majority Leader, Mr. Saater Tiseer (APC/Mbagwa), explained that the former name was unnecessarily long and difficult to use.
It will be recalled that the institution was originally known as Benue State University (BSU), Makurdi until it was first renamed in December 2024.
In the same session, the Assembly also approved amendments upgrading the College of Education, Katsina-Ala and the College of Education, Oju into full degree-awarding institutions.
Presiding over the sitting, Speaker Mr. Alfred Emberga directed the House Clerk, Dr. Bem Mela, to read the bills for a third time before they were officially passed.
