A review meeting was held at the JAMB Headquarters, Abuja, to assess the conduct of the 2025 UTME resit. Present were Chief External Examiners (CEEs) from all states, Senator Shehu Sanni, representatives from Educare, and two others.
The Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, commenced the session at 10:00 AM, emphasizing the purpose: to brief, update, and review the resit examination and all related matters. He reaffirmed that the UTME is a placement examination and reported a 95% attendance rate for the resit. All absentees are to be rescheduled for another exam.
Underage Candidates
The Registrar revealed that the number of underage candidates flagged for “gifted” consideration had risen from 456 to 597. He defined underage as anyone under 16 by October. After deliberation, stakeholders agreed to release the results of these candidates for this sitting only, while emphasizing that tertiary institutions must uphold the minimum age requirement during admissions.
Recommendations and Observations
Former Minister of Aviation, Hon. Osita Benjamin Chidoka, recommended periodic third-party ICT audits to strengthen JAMB’s infrastructure. Reports of malpractice were also discussed, with proposed measures including result cancellations, counselling, and corrective actions.
Result Review Committee
A five-member committee, including Educare and CEEs from Lagos, Anambra, and three other states, was constituted. Focus areas included:
- Data Integrity
- Result Computation
- Anomaly Detection
It was confirmed that accreditation and reaccreditation processes remained consistent and that the eligibility check system (which flags underage candidates) functioned effectively.
Exam Monitoring Systems
Monitoring included biometric tracking, helplines, emergency groups, and a WhatsApp coordination channel. Examination scheme downloads were fully completed, and uploads were near-perfect. Only 2–7 failed uploads were recorded across 317–512 sessions, and these were force-rescheduled.
Result Review Findings
Cross-checking confirmed significant improvements in candidate performance, especially in previously low-performing centres. In samples:
- 66% (146/221) scored above 200
- 72% (127/177) scored above 200
Re-marked submissions from low scorers showed
minimal deviation, supporting result authenticity. The meeting concluded at 5:15 PM, with resolutions aimed at maintaining the integrityand inclusiveness of the UTME process.
