JAMB CLARIFIES EARLY START TIME, DEBUNKS CLAIMS OF WRONG EXAM CENTER.
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has clarified that its Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) has always started at 8:00 a.m., with candidates expected to arrive at exam centers by 6:30 a.m. for accreditation.
According to Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, the JAMB Registrar, the early arrival time is necessary to allow for thorough screening of candidates before the exams begin. He explained that the exam sessions are scheduled to take place at 8:00 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 3:30 p.m.
The registrar also addressed concerns about candidates being posted to exam centers they did not choose, stating that investigations have shown no evidence of such cases. He assured that candidates were assigned to their preferred exam centers.
Regarding exam malpractices, Oloyede revealed that over 40 candidates had been arrested for various offenses, including impersonation and attempting to smuggle out exam questions with hidden cameras. Additionally, he noted that more than 41,000 candidates were found to be underage.
As of the time of the registrar's statement, over 1.6 million candidates had completed their exams, with about 50,000 remaining out of the 2.03 million registered candidates.
JAMB's COMMITMENT TO EXAM INTEGRITIES.
The board's efforts to prevent exam malpractices and ensure the integrity of the examination process are evident in its strict measures to prevent cheating. The arrest of candidates attempting to engage in malpractices serves as a deterrent to others.
The JAMB UTME exams are progressing, with the board taking steps to ensure the integrity of the examination process. Candidates are advised to adhere to the rules and regulations governing the exams to avoid any issues. With over 1.6 million candidates having completed their exams, the results are expected to be released soon.
